LUBBOCK, TX – The Texas Tech Red Raiders football team is entering its 101st season with an electric sense of momentum. Head coach Joey McGuire has officially assembled his 2025 spring roster, packed with a mix of experienced returners and fresh talent. With spring training set to begin on March 10, the program is making significant roster adjustments, unveiling new facilities, and setting high expectations for the upcoming season
Revamped Roster: Fresh Faces and Key Returners
The Red Raiders’ 2025 spring roster is one of the deepest in recent years, featuring 114 players, including 87 returners and 27 newcomers. Among the additions are 18 transfers, with eight coming from Power Four programs. Notably, nine of the incoming transfers have previously earned first-, second-, or third-team all-conference honors, bringing valuable experience and skill to Texas Tech
In terms of continuity, 42 letter-winners from last season are returning, and Texas Tech retains 13 of 22 starters from 2024—including five on offense and eight on defense. These numbers indicate that while the team is welcoming fresh talent, there is also a solid foundation of returning players who understand McGuire’s system

Texas Tech’s recruiting strategy has been Texas-centric, with 87 of the 114 players hailing from the Lone Star State. The roster also includes players from 15 other states—with Florida and Oklahoma leading the way with three players each—and even two international athletes from Australia and Canada
Texas Tech’s Game-Changing Facilities
While roster additions are making headlines, Texas Tech has also made a major splash with its upgraded facilities. The university recently unveiled the Womble Football Facility, a cutting-edge complex designed to give the Red Raiders an edge in training and recruitment
This new facility includes state-of-the-art weight rooms, recovery areas, and advanced sports science equipment, ensuring that Texas Tech remains competitive with other top programs in the Big 12. Coach McGuire and the athletic department view this upgrade as a game-changer for player development and recruiting, making Lubbock an even more attractive destination for elite athletes
Spring Training: A Crucial Step Toward Success
As the Red Raiders prepare to take the field for spring training on March 10, all eyes will be on key position battles. With 18 transfers and a handful of highly touted freshmen vying for starting spots, competition will be fierce in the coming weeks.
One of the biggest questions heading into spring practice is who will lead the offense at quarterback. With multiple quarterbacks in the mix, the battle for the starting job will be a focal point of the offseason. Texas Tech’s offensive line has also undergone significant changes, with new transfers expected to make an immediate impact.
On the defensive side, McGuire will look to build upon a unit that saw eight returning starters. Defensive depth will be critical for the Red Raiders, especially as they prepare for a Big 12 schedule filled with high-powered offenses.
Another major storyline is conditioning and player development. Texas Tech’s eight-week winter training program is designed to maximize strength and agility before the players hit the field for full-contact drills. With the new Womble Football Facility at their disposal, expectations are sky-high for a stronger, faster, and more disciplined Red Raiders team in 2025
Big 12 Ambitions: Aiming for Conference Dominance
Coming off a strong 2024 season that saw Texas Tech rank second in Big 12 attendance, expectations are higher than ever. Fans are already showing their enthusiasm, as season ticket renewals are surging, with a sellout crowd expected for most home games at Jones AT&T Stadium
With McGuire now firmly in his role and a roster loaded with experienced talent and impact transfers, Texas Tech is positioned to make a serious push in the Big 12 race. The combination of new facilities, intense competition for starting spots, and a rigorous offseason training program has the Red Raiders poised for success.
As Texas Tech enters the spring phase of preparation, the foundation is being laid for what could be one of the most exciting seasons in recent history. With a balanced roster, elite new facilities, and an energized coaching staff, the Red Raiders are ready to take the next step toward Big 12 dominance and a potential College Football Playoff run.
The journey begins March 10, when spring practices officially kick off. From there, it’s full steam ahead as Texas Tech looks to turn potential into championship-caliber results. Stay tuned—this season has all the makings of something special.
