BLOCKBUSTER RAZORBACKS UPDATE: SPRING BATTLES, NOTRE DAME SHOWDOWN & TRANSFER DRAMA

BLOCKBUSTER RAZORBACKS UPDATE: SPRING BATTLES, NOTRE DAME SHOWDOWN & TRANSFER DRAMA!

The Arkansas Razorbacks are gearing up for a pivotal 2025 season, packed with high-stakes matchups, intense position battles, and unexpected roster changes. Under the leadership of head coach Sam Pittman, the Hogs are heading into spring practice with a renewed sense of purpose, featuring a mix of returning stars and fresh faces eager to make an impact. However, the excitement comes with challenges, as wide receiver Khafre Brown has entered the NCAA transfer portal, leaving a hole in the Razorbacks’ depth chart

Spring Practice: Position Battles & Rising Stars

Spring practices officially began on March 10 and will continue throughout April, leading up to the Red-White Game on April 19, a marquee event during the annual Wooo Pig Weekend

The game will provide fans with an early glimpse of what to expect this fall, as several key position battles unfold.

One of the most intriguing competitions is at quarterback, where transfer Taylen Green is looking to solidify his role as the starter. Green, who brings dual-threat ability and SEC-level experience, will have to fend off young talent eager to prove themselves. Meanwhile, offensive lineman Fernando Carmona, defensive lineman Cam Ball, and linebacker Xavian Sorey Jr. are among the veterans expected to anchor their respective units.

With six practices before spring break and additional workouts resuming on April 1, the coaching staff will have ample time to evaluate depth and make necessary adjustments

Razorbacks Set for Historic Notre Dame Matchup

While Arkansas’ SEC slate is always grueling, the biggest non-conference storyline of 2025 is the Razorbacks’ first-ever matchup against Notre Dame on September

This game will be a massive test for Pittman’s squad and could serve as a program-defining moment if the Hogs manage to take down one of college football’s most storied programs.

Beyond Notre Dame, the Razorbacks will face Texas A&M in Fayetteville for the first time since 2013 on October 18, making for a high-intensity Family Weekend showdown. Mississippi State will visit on November 1 for Homecoming, and the season will conclude with a senior day and military appreciation game against Missouri on November 29

With these key matchups on the horizon, Arkansas must use the spring period to fine-tune its roster and establish a competitive edge.

Khafre Brown’s Transfer Leaves a Void

Despite the anticipation surrounding spring practice and marquee matchups, the Razorbacks are dealing with a significant roster shakeup. Veteran wide receiver Khafre Brown has entered the NCAA transfer portal, marking another chapter in his college football journey

Brown, who was expected to contribute as a senior, now leaves Arkansas searching for additional pass-catching options. His departure could create an opportunity for younger players to step up, but it also raises concerns about depth at the wide receiver position.

With a mix of high-profile games, intense competition in spring practice, and roster adjustments, the Razorbacks have a lot on their plate heading into the 2025 season. The upcoming Red-White Game will serve as an early measuring stick, while the historic clash with Notre Dame and key SEC battles loom large.
