Texas Longhorns RB Jaydon Blue Declares for 2025 NFL Draft
Texas Longhorns junior running back Jaydon Blue has officially declared for the 2025 NFL Draft, forgoing his senior season after three productive years in Austin. Blue made the announcement via social media, expressing gratitude for his time at Texas and the support from his teammates, coaches, and fans.
A Breakout Junior Season
After serving as a rotational back in his first two seasons, Blue took on a more significant role in 2024. He finished the season with 730 rushing yards, 368 receiving yards, and 14 total touchdowns, proving to be a dynamic dual-threat option in Texas’ offense
His performance was particularly vital after injuries to fellow running backs Jonathon Brooks (2023) and CJ Baxter (2024), allowing him to step up as a key contributor.
One of his standout performances came in the College Football Playoff first round against Clemson, where he rushed for 146 yards and two touchdowns, helping Texas advance to the semifinals against Ohio State.
NFL Draft Stock and Scouting Report
Blue brings elite speed, with projections suggesting he could run a 4.3-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine. At 6 feet, 190 pounds, he blends quickness, agility, and pass-catching ability, making him an attractive prospect for teams in need of a versatile running back.
Although he is currently not ranked in ESPN analyst Mel Kiper’s Big Board, his late-season surge and impressive playoff performances could boost his draft stock. Some analysts believe he has the potential to be a top-100 pick.
Texas’ Backfield Moving Forward
Despite Blue’s departure, the Longhorns still have a strong running back group featuring CJ Baxter, Quintrevion Wisner, and freshman Jerrick Gibson. Texas will look to these players to fill the void left by Blue’s departure.
Blue now follows in the footsteps of recent Texas running backs who have made it to the NFL, including Bijan Robinson (Falcons), Roschon Johnson (Bears), Jonathon Brooks (Panthers), and Keilan Robinson (Jaguars)
