UConn Football Secures 12 Promising Recruits for 2025 Under Jim Mora’s Leadership
The University of Connecticut football program, led by head coach Jim Mora, has made a strong statement in its 2025 recruiting class by signing 12 high school standouts from across seven states. This strategic addition aims to build on the Huskies’ recent progress, which saw them improve from a 3-9 season to an 8-4 record, securing a bowl game appearance in 2024. While the transfer portal has been instrumental in UConn’s turnaround, Mora remains committed to bolstering the roster with talented high school recruits who can contribute to the program’s long-term success.
Diverse Talent Pool Across Positions
The 2025 recruiting class is well-balanced, featuring seven defensive players and five offensive additions. Defensively, the Huskies secured two linemen, three defensive backs, and two linebackers. The offensive signings include two linemen, a quarterback, a tight end, and a wide receiver.
Among the key recruits is Axavier Bridges-Brooks, a defensive back from Maryland who had offers from 15 major programs, including Penn State, Tennessee, and Oregon. Another major signing is Nykobi Brown, a defensive end from Georgia powerhouse Valdosta High, who chose UConn over programs such as FAU, James Madison, and Western Kentucky.
On the offensive side, K’saan Farrar, a quarterback from Virginia, arrives with an impressive high school career, having thrown for over 3,000 yards and 36 touchdowns in his senior season. He picked UConn over interest from East Carolina, Marshall, and Liberty.
Building for the Future
The Huskies also landed high-potential players in the trenches. Offensive linemen Joe McGann and Hill Greenlee, both from New Jersey’s Hun School, bring size and skill to the team’s front line. McGann, originally from New York, attracted attention from schools like Rutgers and Syracuse before committing to UConn.
Another standout is Aubrey Melvin, a defensive lineman from Maryland who dominated his senior season with 15.5 sacks and earned County Defensive Player of the Year honors. He turned down offers from Virginia Tech, West Virginia, and Pitt to join the Huskies.
In the secondary, Osiris Gilbert and Saxton Suchanic add depth to UConn’s defensive backfield. Gilbert, from Georgia, had over 20 scholarship offers, including Florida State and Michigan State. Suchanic, a Pennsylvania native, was a shutdown corner in high school, not allowing a single touchdown in his junior season.
Wide receiver Makih Johnson adds an explosive playmaker to the offense, coming off a senior season where he racked up over 1,000 receiving yards. Meanwhile, tight end Xavier Watson, who also played wide receiver in high school, could provide a versatile weapon in UConn’s passing attack.
Jim Mora’s Vision for UConn Football
Mora has prioritized building a competitive roster through both high school recruiting and the transfer portal. The latest class reflects his commitment to identifying and developing talent that can make an impact at the FBS level. With a mix of skilled defensive players, offensive weapons, and linemen to reinforce both sides of the ball, UConn is positioning itself for continued success in the coming seasons.
