BREAKING NEWS: The Detroit Lions have a recurring theme in the early 2025 mock drafts.
Whether you like it or not, 2025 are coming out now that the NFL Draft for 2024 is gone. As anticipated, the Detroit Lions are predicted to return to their previous level of success and have a late first-round choice in any early 2025 mock draft you see. And, to be honest, there are a lot of ways they might go with that first choice in a year.
The Lions may attempt to add a seasoned player in a couple areas once the draft dust settles, if only to enhance depth and competitiveness. The positions that stick out are wide receiver, safety, and edge rusher—possibly the first two more so than the third.
With 41 sacks during the previous season, the Lions were tied for 23rd place. In his breakout season, defensive lineman Alim McNeill recorded 7.5 sacks, behind by Aidan Hutchinson’s 11.5 sacks. Aside from Hutchinson, no other edge rusher recorded more than two sacks.
Despite signing a one-year contract as a free agent, Marcus Davenport has only had two or less sacks in three of the previous four seasons because of injuries. James Houston’s recovery will be beneficial, but it’s unclear what exactly he’ll accomplish.
Thus, Hutchinson’s long-term running companion should be considered as the 2025 draft approaches, as early mocks have consistently suggested.
