The club shared an official update on their website following a retrospective review by The FA. Here’s the key detail from the announcement:

The FA has released the following statement regarding Brandon Thomas-Asante:

“Brandon Thomas-Asante has been suspended for three matches following Coventry City’s EFL Championship match against Norwich City on Monday 26 January. The player’s behaviour around the 34th minute wasn’t seen by the match officials at the time, but it was caught on video, and The FA alleged that it constitutes violent conduct. Brandon Thomas-Asante subsequently admitted the charge against him and accepted the standard penalty for violent conduct.”

This means the Sky Blues forward will miss the upcoming league fixtures against Queens Park Rangers, Oxford United, and Middlesbrough. The incident involved an off-the-ball clash in the penalty area during the game at Carrow Road, which escaped the referee’s notice live but was picked up via broadcast footage.

Coventry City FC posted: “FA Statement: Brandon Thomas-Asante” to communicate the news directly to fans, aligning with standard protocol for such FA decisions.

The club (and manager Frank Lampard in related comments) has acknowledged the regrettable nature of the moment, with Thomas-Asante himself issuing a personal response expressing remorse in follow-up reports.

This comes at a challenging time for Coventry, who remain competitive at the top end of the Championship table despite the suspension impacting squad options in attack.
