Ohio State Offers Angelo Smith — Will Jeremiah’s Bro Become the Next Smith Dynasty in Scarlet & Gray?

The Ohio State Buckeyes just made a move that could shape the future of their wide receiver corps—and perhaps continue a new family legacy in Columbus. This week, the Buckeyes extended a scholarship offer to Angelo Smith, the younger brother of current Ohio State sensation Jeremiah Smith, sparking immediate speculation: Could the next generation of the Smith family be on deck to dominate in scarlet and gray?

Angelo, a rising star in his own right, has spent the past year turning heads at South Florida’s elite 7-on-7 events and national recruiting camps. Though still early in his high school career, he’s already garnered interest from multiple Power Five programs. But it was Ohio State’s offer—made official just days ago—that truly ignited buzz across Buckeye Nation and the national recruiting landscape.

Jeremiah Smith, a five-star recruit from the Class of 2024, made headlines nationwide with his commitment to Ohio State. Since arriving in Columbus, he’s done nothing but impress. Standing 6-foot-3 and weighing 215 pounds, Jeremiah’s combination of speed, precision route-running, and elite ball skills has already vaulted him into early Heisman Trophy conversations as just a sophomore. Many insiders are calling him one of the most talented wide receivers in Buckeye history—and he’s only getting started.

Now, with his younger brother Angelo entering the national spotlight, the potential for a new Smith dynasty is very real. While Jeremiah was already a known commodity by his sophomore year, some scouts argue Angelo’s development curve could be even steeper. Though their games differ—Jeremiah is a prototypical outside receiver, while Angelo is more versatile, able to operate both in the slot and out of the backfield—the football instincts, athleticism, and drive seem to run deep in the Smith bloodline.

According to several recruiting analysts, Ohio State’s decision to offer Angelo Smith wasn’t just about bloodlines. “The Buckeyes are never in the business of handing out offers simply based on name recognition,” said one Big Ten insider. “Angelo’s skill set, football IQ, and toughness all align with what Brian Hartline and Ryan Day want in this program. Having Jeremiah already on campus helps, but Angelo earned this on his own merit.”

Coaches reportedly watched hours of Angelo’s film before finalizing the offer, and sources within the program suggest that wide receivers coach Brian Hartline sees tremendous upside in the younger Smith’s explosiveness and footwork. There’s also strong belief that the Buckeyes are positioning themselves early, given the inevitable recruiting war that will surround Angelo once his name becomes even more prominent in the high school ranks.

Though Ohio State’s offer gives them a clear early advantage, other schools are paying close attention. Miami, Florida State, Alabama, and Georgia have all shown interest, and with Angelo’s stock rising, a full-scale recruiting battle is expected to erupt soon.

Still, the Buckeyes have one key advantage: family. Jeremiah’s impact on the program, and his likely trajectory toward becoming a first-round NFL Draft pick, offers a living blueprint for Angelo. The chance to follow in his brother’s footsteps—and perhaps carve out his own legacy—could be a strong pull.

In a recent interview, Jeremiah spoke glowingly about the possibility of reuniting with his brother at the collegiate level. “We’ve been playing together since we were little,” Jeremiah said. “He’s got that fire in him. I’d love to see him here in Columbus. But whatever he chooses, I know he’ll make the right call.”

While it’s still early in Angelo’s recruitment journey, the offer from Ohio State signals just how highly regarded he is among the nation’s top programs. For now, he’ll continue working on his craft, stacking highlights, and building momentum heading into his junior year.
