Texas Tech Red Raiders Score Big with Graduate Transfer Tennis Standout Grant Lothringer – 2025 Season Heating Up

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech Red Raiders have mad a significant addition to their men’s tennis roster for the 2025 season, securing the commitment of graduate transfer Grant Lothringer, a seasoned and highly competitive player who brings both talent and leadership to the court. With this strategic acquisition, the Red Raiders are making a clear statement: they are not just building for the future—they are playing to win now.

Grant Lothringer isn’t just another name on a roster. The Dallas native has already left his mark in college tennis through four seasons of gritty, high-level play. He began his career at SMU, where he quickly rose to prominence as a doubles specialist and reliable singles player. His grit, court IQ, and relentless energy made him a cornerstone of the Mustangs’ lineup.

During his time at SMU, Lothringer was frequently matched against the top players in the nation—and he held his own. He racked up key victories in high-stakes matches and showed consistency in both singles and doubles. Most notably, he was part of several doubles teams that reached the national rankings, and his ability to form chemistry with a range of partners is a rare quality in collegiate tennis.

Texas Tech head coach Danny Whitehead expressed his enthusiasm over Lothringer’s commitment, emphasizing how the veteran player aligns with the program’s competitive spirit and culture.

Grant is exactly the kind of player we want in this program,” Whitehead said. “He’s a tireless worker, a smart competitor, and someone who knows what it takes to win at this level. His experience and leadership will be invaluable, especially to our younger guys.”

The Red Raiders are coming off a season of near-misses and competitive heartbreaks, narrowly missing out on a deeper run in the Big 12 tournament. But with the addition of Lothringer, there is renewed optimism that the team can take a major leap in 2025.

Lothringer’s presence immediately bolsters the team’s doubles depth, an area where Texas Tech struggled with consistency in key matches last season. His track record in doubles play—marked by fast hands at the net and sharp instincts—makes him an ideal partner for any of Tech’s top returners. In singles, he brings a cool-headedness and an ability to grind out points, something that could prove crucial in tight Big 12 contests.

The Big 12 remains one of the most brutal and unforgiving conferences in college tennis, with perennial powerhouses like TCU, Texas, and Baylor consistently fielding nationally ranked teams. But Texas Tech is ready to throw its hat into the ring in a bigger way, and Lothringer’s addition could be a catalyst for that transformation.

More than just talent, Lothringer adds maturity and perspective—qualities that are often the difference between good and great teams. For a Red Raiders squad loaded with young, promising talent, his mentorship off the court may be just as valuable as his contributions on it.

Texas Tech’s 2025 campaign is already shaping up to be one of the most anticipated in recent memory. With Lothringer now in the fold, the Red Raiders are assembling a team that blends youthful energy with seasoned leadership.

The coaching staff is also investing in off-court development, adding a sports psychologist and strength-and-conditioning enhancements aimed at improving mental toughness and physical durability—two things that will be essential in the high-pressure environment of the Big 12.

With fall tournaments just a few months away and the spring dual match season looming beyond that, all eyes are on Lubbock. Lothringer’s arrival is not just a move—it’s a message: the Red Raiders are done rebuilding. Now, it’s time to compete.

In college athletics, timing is everything. And the timing of Grant Lothringer’s arrival couldn’t be better for Texas Tech. He brings not only experience but the kind of competitive fire that can elevate an entire team’s mindset. For a program striving to punch through to the national stage, that kind of presence is priceless.
