Elite Safety Prospect Chance Collins Pledges to Texas A&M, Boosting 2026 Class to No. 7 in the Nation
Chance Collins, a highly touted four-star safety out of Houston’s North Shore High School, has announced his commitment to the Aggies. Collins, considered one of the top defensive backs in the Class of 2026, marks the 14th commitment in the cycle for Texas A&M and the 12th four-star recruit.
With Collins joining the fold, the Aggies’ 2026 class now ranks seventh nationally, according to 247Sports Composite. The commitment strengthens a defensive group that’s quickly becoming one of the best in the country.
Standing 6’1” and weighing 190 pounds, Collins is a hard-hitting safety with standout instincts and range. In 2024, he totaled 78 tackles, four picks, and a pair of forced fumbles, showing off his knack for making big plays on defense. His performance helped North Shore make another deep playoff run.
Texas A&M beat out several major contenders for his commitment, including Texas, LSU, and Oklahoma. In the end, the Aggies’ consistent communication and vision for Collins’s role in their scheme won out.
Texas A&M continues to assert itself as the dominant force in Texas recruiting. Collins is the latest in-state star to choose the Aggies, following commitments from linebacker Trey Sanders and cornerback Malik Owens, both fellow four-star defenders.
Texas A&M isn’t done yet. With more elite prospects still undecided, the Aggies are in a position to climb even higher in the rankings. Targets like Tylan Reed, a five-star wide receiver, and offensive lineman Bryce Williams remain priorities.
Landing Collins signals to the rest of the nation that Texas A&M is regaining elite recruiting status. The program’s emphasis on locking down local talent — and doing it early — is starting to pay dividends.
The Aggies have built a foundation with high-upside, four-star athletes, and Collins’s decision is further proof that Coach Elko and his staff are steering Texas A&M in a direction Aggie fans have long hoped for — toward championships.
