BREAKING: Red Sox Collapse Continues as Cora Admits Team ‘Not Getting Better’ After 8th Loss in 10 Games

Red Sox’s Struggles Deepen as Cora Acknowledges Team’s Stagnation

The Boston Red Sox’s recent performance has been a cause for concern, with the team losing eight of their last ten games, including a 4-3 extra-innings defeat to the Los Angeles Angels. This slump has brought their season record to 29-34, placing them five games below .500 and closer in standings to the last-place Chicago White Sox than the division-leading Detroit Tigers .

Manager Alex Cora has expressed deep frustration over the team’s ongoing issues. Following the recent loss to the Angels, he stated, “We’re not getting better,” highlighting the team’s repeated mistakes and lack of progress . Cora took responsibility for the team’s performance, questioning the preparation and effort of the players. He emphasized the need for better execution and accountability, noting that the team has struggled significantly in close games, with a 6-17 record in one-run contests .

The Red Sox’s defensive performance has been a significant factor in their struggles. The team has committed more total errors than even the struggling Colorado Rockies, leading to costly mistakes in crucial moments . Cora has criticized the team’s inability to make routine plays, stating, “Defensively, we’re not good,” and emphasizing the importance of executing basic defensive responsibilities .

Injuries have further compounded the Red Sox’s difficulties. Pitcher Kutter Crawford’s rehab start was postponed due to wrist pain, and he is set to undergo further tests. First baseman Triston Casas, recovering from a patellar injury, does not anticipate returning until Opening Day 2026 . Additionally, key acquisition Alex Bregman is sidelined with a quad injury, lacking a clear timeline for return . These absences have forced the team to make roster adjustments, including sending Richard Fitts to the minors and placing Nick Burdi on the injured list, while recalling Cooper Criswell and Zack Kelly .

Offensively, the Red Sox have struggled with consistency, particularly in high-leverage situations. In the recent loss to the Angels, the team went 1-for-13 with runners in scoring position, failing to capitalize on multiple scoring opportunities . Managerial decisions, such as starting Romy Gonzalez in the cleanup spot despite his offensive struggles, have also drawn criticism .
